Why did you become a goalkeeper?
There is nothing more fun than diving after a ball on your trampoline or in the swimming pool when you have not quite mastered the basic techniques of goalkeeping. Floating carefree through the air without having to think about the pain you will suffer if you hit the ball badly. This was Nino Walbeek’s daily ritual, to the point that it drove his parents crazy, and when he was 10 years old, he got the chance to play a match as a goalkeeper. Since then, not a game has gone by where he was not on the field as a goalkeeper.
Which famous goalkeeper would you compare yourself to and why?
The name Peter Schmeichel sounds familiar to many of us, but we will mainly know it from Kasper Schmeichel rather than from his father. Now when you know both goalkeepers you will have noticed that both goalkeepers are very similar. Not only in looks, but also in style of play. Mature men who can show calmness under any circumstances.

What are the most important qualities you look for in a goalkeeper’s glove?
As soon as you start playing at a higher level, the grip of your goalkeeper gloves is the most important thing. Nino Walbeek is all about catching balls, so he can’t afford to start a game with bad gloves. Because we are on the field every day, durability is also very important. Otherwise, we would have to use up to 30 pairs of goalkeeper gloves every year. Meanwhile I have been playing with the Prostar goalkeeper gloves for more than a year and they simply fulfil all my wishes. In short, they are the best I have had the pleasure of playing goalkeeping with so far.
What are your goals for the future?
Nino Walbeek gets up every morning with the goal in mind. In this way, he tries to get the best out of himself every day to work towards his goals. Dreams are beautiful and everyone needs to have dreams to have something to look forward to in life, but what’s the point of having them if they are not attainable? That is why it is important that you do everything you can to make those dreams come true. And that is how Nino Walbeek hopes to make his debut in the first team on TV one day.
You have now had a taste of foreign football, do you ever dream of playing abroad again?
Last season, Nino Walbeek moved to Apea in Cyprus for a while. This gave the young goalkeeper the chance to gain experience in a first team. This year, the young goalkeeper will be back playing for his home team FC Eindhoven in the kitchen champion division. Yet he remains open to new adventures. They are instructive experiences, especially where, as a young person, you are taken out of your comfort zone and you therefore learn a lot about yourself as a person.
Any advice you can give to young goalies trying to break through?
Just like Nino, always try to get the best out of yourself. It won’t be easy every day or every training session, but only by giving 100% every training session. That way, you will never be able to blame yourself later on for missing an opportunity. Furthermore, you have to be lucky in football. You have to be in the right place at the right time. Of course, in modern times you can always help that. Of course you have to do it yourself, but social media or goalkeeper days where there are scouts around can help you stand out!
Nino does not hesitate to choose the best affordable quality on the market. No compromises on quality or price. He chooses among others the following models. Do you also want to get started with these professional goalkeeper gloves?
