Nathan & Nuno Heymans

Current club: KV Mechelen
Previous Club: Waasland-Beveren
Birthday: 22 november 2011

This week we have not one but 2 ambassadors. Nathan & Nuno are twins who currently play for KV Mechelen. As a goalkeeper there is often only one place, if you have to compete with your own twin brother. Nathan & Nuno Heymans come from a sporty family. Joris’ dad has a broad background in football and their sister and mum are often out with the horses. So there is not much time for sitting still at the Huymans’ house.

How did you decide to go goalkeeping?

As a goalkeeper you can be the hero of your team and that is fun. Just look at the superheroes on TV, who is not a fan of them? Of course we also have to be realistic and we know by now that as a goalkeeper you can very easily be the anti-hero. Of course the boys are still very young and they still have to learn how to deal with this. Of course, everyone knows that it is a process that they will experience with time and learn how to give everything a place and stand up stronger again.

Which current goalkeeper(s) do you prefer to watch?

The reason why Nathan wanted to become a goalkeeper in the past was not far from the door. Namely none other than Frank Boeckx. Frank de tank started his career at KVO Aarschot and went on to play at SK Lierse, STVV, Antwerp, Gent and Anderlecht. A beautiful record that many of us would sign for at the age of 9. If a game were to be watched on TV today, it would certainly be Keylor Navas. The young goalkeeper who has already won 3x the UEFA Champions League and 2x the UEFA Super Cup. If this is an omen for the course of Nathan’s career, it looks very rosy.

At Nuno, however, another name comes up. Namely, that of Marc André Ter Stegen. We find this name remarkable, as they are two goalkeepers with a different style of play. Ter Stegen is without doubt the goalkeeper who can handle his feet better. Of course, both world goalkeepers have enough class and they are able to score some nice goals from their goal week after week.

As a goalkeeper you also have to be able to play good football. Do you do anything special to improve or maintain these techniques?

It is impossible to imagine modern football without a goalie who can play along with the ball. It is also one of the first things the talent scouts look for. Making one world-class save after another and leading your team to victory in this way is obviously enough to make your talents stand out, but there is a lot more to it than that if you want to become a professional footballer or goalkeeper.

As a goalkeeper, you only want to do one thing and that is to catch as many balls as possible, yet Nathan and Nuno Heymans choose to participate in extra training sessions to polish or maintain their technical football aspects. Nathan chooses to pay extra attention during training and to train as a field player if necessary. Nuno, on the other hand, chooses to do some extra football training. So you see, even as twins everyone is looking for their own way to get the most out of themselves.

How do you prepare for a competition?

A good night’s sleep is very important. Not convinced why a good night’s sleep is so important? Then you should read our page on reflexes. Of course, it is not only important for your reflexes, but a good night’s sleep also ensures that you will be able to concentrate better during the match.

A good breakfast is also very important. It will not only keep you warmer in the winter months, but you will also have more energy so you can take part in the race more actively. Thanks to the night’s rest and breakfast we can make sure we focus on our race right from the warm-up.

You are still very young, who chooses the gloves and what are the criteria for the parents and you as goalkeepers?

As a young goalkeeper you do not have much knowledge of what is on the market. Therefore, as a parent, unless you have been a goalkeeper yourself, it is important that you are well informed about the different products available on the market. Of course, you can just take the children to the shop and ask them which one they like. Yes, that’s a solution and the kids will love it, but of course as a parent you also want the gloves they are wearing to be of sufficient quality and protection.

Nathan and Nuno have been playing with Prostar gloves for 2 seasons now. They have the right combination of quality, comfort and durability, which is very important for young goalkeepers. We are very satisfied with the quality and service of Prostar. We would recommend every goalkeeper to give it a try.

What do you like to do when it’s no football?

Nathan and Nuno Heymans can often be found in the garden with the ball. Now these last months, you can’t expect the kids to spend whole days playing outside and they are ready for a game of fortnite, just like many other kids. So are you ready to take on Nathan and Nuno? Watch out, there are two of them!

Which models did they choose?

Nathan & Nuno does not hesitate and chooses the best affordable quality available on the market. No compromise on quality or price. Among other things, they chose the following models. Do you also want to work with these professional goalkeeper gloves?
